Meet Dr. Nkechi Conteh

Academic Background

Starting her journey at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, Dr. Conteh later obtained a Master's in Public Health from Harvard. She finished her psychiatric residency at Duke University Hospital, earning the title of Best Graduating Resident. Her excellence was further validated by receiving the APA Junior Investigator Research Colloquium Award and an ACP Laughlin Fellowship early in her career.

Career and Faculty Work

Following her training, Dr. Conteh served at the MGH Center for Women's Mental Health and Harvard Medical School before moving to the Primary Care Women's Division at BMC. A leader in education, she was Associate Program Director at MGH/McLean. She now serves as Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and is the Program Director of the Psychiatry Training Program and Vice Chair for Education  in the Department of Psychiatry at Boston Medical Center.

In addition to reproductive psychiatry, Dr. Conteh has focused on advancing mental health equity, reducing healthcare disparities and exploring how technology improves care. She is also deeply committed to utilizing mindfulness strategies to prevent physician burnout and improve well-being.

Educational Initiatives

As a pioneer in medical training, Dr. Conteh crafts programs that merge mental wellness and mentorship with physician support. She has expanded her impact to Nigeria and Sierra Leone, fostering a diverse healthcare workforce. Her PUMP initiative helps students from underrepresented groups thrive in the field, a project that earned her the prestigious American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Faculty Innovation in Education Award

Distinguished Awards

Dr. Conteh’s work in mentorship and clinical teaching has earned her the MGH Center for Diversity Clinician Teacher Development Award  , MGH Global Health Community Engagement Award and the Duke Psychiatry Community Service Award. As a Past Fellow  and Current Member of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry and a 2026 DoximityClinical Fellow, she remains dedicated to your peace of mind and holistic wellness as you navigate pregnancy, parenthood and menopause.
